The Greater C\u00f4a Valley<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

This river represents a significant fluvial corridor, with about 140km of extension. From the source, in Mesas Mountain (Sabugal), to the mouth, in the Douro River (Vila Nova de Foz C\u00f4a), it crosses the plateau area of the Beira Interior, which corresponds to the end of the Iberian Meseta. In the past it served as a natural border, but today it still closely follows the Portuguese border territory, full of historical, natural and landscape richness. Prehistoric traces of human and wildlife presence, the medieval castles and the historical walled villages are well represented here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its natural landscape has recovered in recent decades, and there are now large tracts of young oak trees (Pyrenean Oak), where there are natural meadows and ash tree groves. Consequently, wildlife has returned to or strengthened its presence in this territory, with large herbivores such as the Red deer and the Roe deer standing out. The mythical Iberian Wolf has also announced its presence in a more regular basis. Birds of the Greater C\u00f4a Valley<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

They represent the group that stands out for the variety and occurrence of species of great value for conservation. Among them, the Black Stork<\/strong> (Ciconia nigra<\/em>), the Egyptian Vulture<\/strong> (Neophron percnopterus<\/em>), the Griffon Vulture<\/strong> (Gyps fulvus<\/em>), the Black Vulture<\/strong> (Aegypius monachus<\/em>), the Golden Eagle<\/strong> (Aquila chrysaetos<\/em>), the Bonelli’s Eagle<\/strong> (Aquila fasciata<\/em>), the Short-toed Snake Eagle<\/strong> (Circaetus gallicus<\/em>) the Booted Eagle<\/strong> (Hieraaetus pennatus<\/em>), the Red Kite<\/strong> (Milvus milvus<\/em>), The Black-winged Kite<\/strong> (Elanus caeruleus<\/em>), the Eagle Owl<\/strong> (Bubo bubo<\/em>), the Red-rumped Swallow<\/strong> (Cecropis daurica<\/em>), the Crag Martin<\/strong> (Ptyonoprogne rupestris<\/em>), the Alpine Swift<\/strong> (Apus melba<\/em>). <\/span><\/p>\n
